When creating a text field, there is an option to choose “Number” as the format for data entry. It is often used when entering values (0-9). A popular misperception is to use this option when creating a telephone number. This would be a mistake. It’s better to choose the “Text” option instead. The reason why is because a number formatted field will not accept parenthesis or dashes whereas a text formatted field will accept any character.
