Apple released iOS 11.1 beta on September 27th. Many of you like to live on the edge and have download it, even though Apple recommends installing beta software only on a test machine.
Let me give you a reason not to install it. It won’t work with the latest version (v1.7.9.6) of the FormConnect and FormConnect Pro apps. It will require us to release an updated version of FormConnect that is compatible with iOS 11.1.
We have been testing an update internally that is compatible, but we can’t release it until Apple officially releases iOS 11.1 to the general public. The reason why we cannot release it is because Apple does not allow developers to submit updates that are compatible with beta software. They require us to wait until the official release is made public and then submit an update.
So, even though we have an iOS 11.1 update, we can’t release it until the official version is released to the public. When will that happen? We don’t know. Apple does not pre-announce the dates of their software releases. Our best guess would be around the time the new iPhone X is released (November 3rd) but we have no inside information and this is only a guess.
In summary, don’t install iOS 11.1 beta and wait until it is officially released to the public in a few weeks.
Note: If you have iOS 8, iOS 9, iOS 10, iOS 11 installed, you don’t have anything to worry about. The FormConnect apps work with all of these iOS versions. The only thing you need to be concerned with is iOS beta software.
