One of our customers recently had their iPad stolen and lost all of the customer data that they had collected over several years. Fortunately, they had backed up their forms and records to Dropbox and were able to recover all of their data when they imported it back to their new iPad.
For those of you aren’t familiar with this backup and restore procedure, below is a post that we wrote in October 2015. It’s still as relevant today and we highly recommend that you incorporate it into backup routine.
If you use the FormConnect app on a regular basis for collecting data, you will have created numerous forms over time and will want to protect that data in case of damage or theft to your iPad or iPhone device. One of the best ways to protect your data is to periodically export all of your records to the cloud using one of the many cloud storage services providers. We currently support four of these cloud storage service providers (Dropbox, Box, Google Drive and OneDrive) and the process for exporting/importing is as follows:
Export Process:
1. Tap on the “Arrow” icon.
2. Select the option “All Records”.
3. Select the “Export” option.
4. Select the “FMC” file format.
5. Select the cloud service (Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, OneDrive).
6. Select the folder/directory to export the file.
Import Process:
1. Launch the mobile cloud service app.
2. Highlight the file that you exported.
9. Select Open In – FormConnect.
