Checking the App Store for Updates

One of the most common mistakes users of our app make is not checking the App Store periodically for an update to our software (see below). The reason why this is important is because it is the only way to know if we have added new functionality to the app or fixed a bug that was preventing the app from working properly. This became painfully obvious to one of our customers recently when the app stopped working and they could not understand why? It started when they decided to upgrade the Apple operating system (iOS) on their iPad to version 11x. This seemed innocent enough as Apple recommends that you run the latest version of their software. The problem that many users do not realize is they run the risk of the app that they have been using may not be compatible with the version of the iOS that they just upgraded to. An update to the FormConnect app had been released in December 2017 that was compatible with iOS 11x but the customer had not upgraded to this latest version and that was the reason why the app stopped functioning. The customer further compounded the problem by using a different Apple ID than the one that was used to purchase the app and therefore never got notified that an upgrade had occurred.

There are two things that we can learn from this customer’s experience.
1. Check the App Store for updates periodically.
2. You must be logged into the App Store with the Apple ID that purchased the app in order to receive updates.
