The way utilities calculate how much electricity you used per month is by comparing the meter reading from the previous month to the reading this month and calculating the difference. They then multiply that value by a cost factor to determine your bill. Below is a form that one of our utility customers created to record the meter readings. It displays the current and previous month reading and calculates the usage per day.
